Fire Prevention
Our Mission
Our mission is to inform the public on emergencies that can happen anytime and anywhere. Over the past seven years we have had at least 100+ emergencies in our community and surrounding towns per year. Much of this call volume invovled a fire alarm, CO detector or some sort of alarm activation. With those alarms going off it can prevent life threatening events. In the following we will list some good fire prevention tips.
Smoke Detectors
Smoke Detectors should be installed in every house. Roughly three out of five deaths in house fires happened in houses with no working smoke detectors. Smoke detectors can be purchased at any hardware store. Batteries should be changed every 6 months. These should also be tested once a month to ensure there is no error with them.
Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers can play a big role inside or outside of your house. Whether you are grilling or have a candle that gets knocked over, there are different extinguishers for different types of fires such as....
- Class A- Cloth, Wood, Rubber, Paper, and Plastics.
- Class B- Gasoline, Grease and Oil.
- Class C- Electrical fires.
- Class D- Combustable metals.
- Class K- Kitchen fires.
Winter Activities
Winter is coming sooner then we think. Living here we all know that weather can change up here very fast. Remember to dust all the snow off your car. Clear off windhshields completely and all windows. Take time to defrost and do not rush getting to places.
- Wear reflective clothing when walking around dusk and carry a flashlight with you.
- Check your heating system and clean chimneys, They should be inspected yearly
- Unplug or turn off decorative lights overnight. Many light strands are older and do not have any form of saftey for them to automatically shut off.
- Indoor wood burning fire places have been keeping houses warm for a long time. Remember to make sure the door is closed tight before walking away from the fire place.
- Do not blow snow into the road. It could cause vehicles to spin out.
- Dress for the weather. Shorts are not the best clothing to wear for snow blowing.
- Have fun and Stay hydrated and Stay safe!
